CoCoRaHS WxTalk Webinar #90 Monitoring Climate Change at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
Presenter Clair Ransom - Geneva, Switzerland
Beginning in 1873 as a forum for exchanging weather data and research, the WMO today is the UN's leading voice on weather, water and climate. One of the lesser known specialized agencies of the UN, the WMO plays a critical role in many matters related to data exchange, climate change and socioeconomic development. This webinar will present WMO, its history and some of the work that it does, with a specific focus on climate change and its impact to sustainable development.

CoCoRaHS WxTalk Webinar #73: Commercial Weather Sector Innovation
This is such a gem of a show!
This is good, interesting, and concise information. Perhaps next time I may follow through!
CoCoRaHS would be wise to stay away from this issue unless you want to destroy the program.
Why? What is it about climate change that discussing results in such dark threats?
Omg you doxed Jennifer
Simple . ✌🏼🔥
You Americans would make your lives a whole lot easier if you used millimetres like the rest of the World!
Thank you
Watched today. New to the site. Enjoyed.
Always love a good CoCoRaHS trailer ;)
This video is so old but informative 🫶
Oh boy, it's that time again!
the larger outside container should also be calibrated. that way if you get say 4" of rain, you can easily add the 2 tubes together for a general measurement. not a scientific measurement. I use a 7" tall glass cylinder, from the dollar store, its common usage may be to hold flowers, not sure, but it's perfect for a durable rain gauge. I've attached a laminated paper ruler to the outside of it. works great, been using it for 5 years
I need info on measurement in mm not inches.
Hello
Excellent video thanks a lot
Is there an easy chart online that compares "average rainfall event" vs "heavier rainfall events"?
Thanku teacher ❤
Kuru Kuru Kuru Kuru
why dont you use the metric system once and for all ?
So I don't have the time to do the accurate SWE or snow depth. If I do just the gauge catch there is no way in your form to mark if the storm was frozen precip or liquid precip. That's losing a lot of information if we report just gauge catch and leave the snow field blank due to lack of time or resources. The reason it is so important to know if it's snow vs rain is because of warming temperatures due to climate change. And the comments aren't public on the map information or any accessible information to the public?
Does the gauge have a specific name or do you know where I can get one?
poop
Noah & Steve - Thanks so much for this very informative and in depth video on DEX. I was blown away the day DEX arrived and now with this training I can see I've got hours ahead of me trying out all the features here I hadnt discovered. This enhancement to data viewing is something I always hoped for. I no longer have to do this my self in Excel, and I wasnt doing 5% of what you do here. I really enjoy digging thru historical data and trends and after 14 yrs of CoCoRahs data entry Its amazing to go back and see what I've captured at my two stations. Thanks again !!! So how will you ever top this?? Ha Ha. Got my VR goggles ready 😉 Take care guys
Thanks for this great tutorial. Must have been a huge amount of work to develop DEx, so congratulations to all involved!
This video was very helplful and funny

SHOUT OUT TO MR. BACKES!!!!!
Thank you for that explanation i found one i had no idea what it was.
Good day, may I download this video to be uploaded in Facebook for our page about saving watersheds?
A most engaging webinar. Thank you.
I joined in the early days. I lived at Prospect Valley after going to a meeting in Greeley that Nolan had. He explained how it worked to do the reporting. I grew up on a dry land farm in N.W. Baca county. My dad always tracked rainfall. I now live in Cheraw, CO (near La Junta) and I still watch the weather and report precipitation.
And I have my first reports on June 6, 1998. Happy to be back reporting after a long hiatus.
Enjoyed the presentation. Thank you for making the webinar available at a later date. This presentation confirmed my intuitive ideas that wind shears can contribute to turbulence and the Kelvin-Helmholtz waves from a variety of conditions from thunderstorms - mostly from the outflows. Don
I remember this! We had a similar event in Aurora, a Denver suburb, in 2013. We got a year's worth of rain in 3 days! (near Interstate 225 & Alameda). The news featured a lady kayaking across a local park, and a fish was seen swimming down Peoria St! For the first time in 50 years in the same house, our basement flooded as did all our neighbors on the hill. Even FEMA was called out. The only other places hit as hard as us were Boulder and just outside of there. Quantities of rain and flash flooding varied by just a few miles. Good job CoCoRahs! Go CSU (-- a UNC alum 😊)
Congrats on this interview. I saw your tweet just in time and tuned in to catch it!
I’m in Hawaii and I’ve been reporting every day for over 7 years. Love helping the community.
I bet you wouldn’t do it if you lived in a cold climate.
@@jeremywales8 sure I would. I’ve been out in torrential rain of 20” in 8 hours, often every day 7am. High winds too. I love being a part of this community. Infrequently, maybe 4 or 5 times, I do a multi-day reporting in really bad weather or vacation. 😊
@@kphawaii999 …rain & cold aren’t the same. That’s all I was trying to get at.
@@jeremywales8 I understand. No matter what the weather, I’m proud of my 7 year track record. Helping any small way I can. 🩵
@@kphawaii999 … I understand. Bless you for doing so. 🥰❤️🔥🌸🤙🏻✨
Just joined and can’t wait for my tools to be delivered so I can start participating! Love my backyard birds, gardens and koi pond. This seems like a great extension for me at the time! Yay!
looks very easy. I am looking forward to helping
Really Nice presentation thank you. I have few questions 1. What does that mean 00Z and 12 Z mean in Radiosonde data? which one is good to determine th etropopause height? 2. How can I arrange the radiosonde data daily easily software to remove whole hading with its text?
Thanks for the schooling! Here in California, snow has been uncommon at our location, but we actually got some this year, about three inches of wet snow that I had to melt and measure. The training arrived a bit late, but will likely be useful to other California observers, especially in the Sierra's.
Where do I get the equipment?
Thank you. Helpful.
Excellent !! Very informative !!
Can someone explain, why is the height of the water level changes when it is poured into different container that is calibrated. I am confused because I thought the water level will be the same regardless of the diameter and shape of the containers as long as the sides are straight and the top and bottom are of the same size.
Lol this caught me off guard at first. I was thinking surely you realize the volumes of the containers are different. But then I realized what you were asking I think. The “inch” measurement is different because the water was captured using a larger diameter container, then transferred to the smaller measuring tube. If you sat both the larger container and the smaller container out in the same rain they should both measure the same “depth” of water because of how big the opening is in the container. (Edit: the smaller tubes graduations would be incorrect if you did this. But if you sat the two containers side by side the water level should essentially be the exact same)
Murica most shit countries, only weather balloon say spy🤡🤡🤡🤡
